Sierra Club: Volunteer to Help with Gulf Coast Oil Spill Disaster Relief Efforts
Our hearts go out to the eleven families who lost their loved-ones from the oil rig explosion. This terrible tragedy is a sad reminder that oil is dirty, dangerous, and deadly. Gulf Coast communities are facing the challenge of managing the immediate cleanup and recovery needs of area residents, businesses, wildlife and marine life. They will surely need all hands on deck to meet the challenges of the relief effort.

I live in NY How can I help?
Some friends and I were interested in coming down from PA to help in bathing oiled animals. What’s the best way to go about that, and/or who is the best company to contact?
Check out http://gulfcoastfund.org/. There is a lot of info specific to the area. I’m sure if you reach out to them you can get logistical info and details on where help is needed most. If you cannot travel, look at our donation page or Act Now page. These contain valuable links for getting involved “virtually.” Thanks! TSS Staff

Marine Biology is my passion & my life. I live in Southern California. How can I help?
I want to help, but living in Southern California I’m not sure what I can do. Any suggestions? I want to do all I can. I heard BP is trying to block the public from helping. How can we bypass this? They are not doing enough, fast enough.

I’ve been a Dawn Dishsoap user since you first put it out in the early 70s – I grew up in the oilfields around Odessa, TX – Everybody knows now, like they did then, that Dawn is the best dadgum cleaner, degreaser, handsoap, oily- hairscrub, etc; etc; on the planet. I’m nearly 60 years old and i’ve shampooed my head more with Dawn, than with anything else, and i have a Full head of thick brown hair with very little grey.
My email to you is to address another concern on the Gulf coast – The wildlife along the Gulf are being impacted by another danger – US! – The cleanup workers on the beaches and in open areas are desparate for shade and relief from the Sun, They will construct shelter from whatever is available to them, including irreplaceable nesting materials and shadetrees.
I sincerely hope I’ve contacted the right stewards of this planet with what I purpose; Would it be possible for you to oversee building some large openwalled tents (like huge circus tents) and install some big Port-A-Cool fans – Put your DAWN logo on it! – Set them up on the beach with mabey a cosponsor like Ozarka or desani bottle water – You would receive more free media than you could buy, and perhaps Prez Obama will make BP reemburse any cost????
Think About it! – Be AMERICA’S HERO – START a TREND
Please email me back even if you think i’m nutz
Thanx Mucho for the Great Products

Would love to help with the animals. I live in NJ. Will travel. How can help?
lnrdkennedy@gmail.com i am looking for a place to camp and would like to volienteer….etc..
i live in arlington tx un emp iam lookin for ajob to help the gulf
See all of these people just dying to help with saving the wildlife? They need to be put to use. They need campgrounds set up to travel to and stay in. They need a quick training session on how to handle and clean the birds, and how not to damage the nesting areas worse than they already have been. And then they need to be put to work for as long as they can provide their volunteer services. That’s the worst part of this is having all these people in other parts of the country wanting to help but not knowing how to go about. It’s great to see so many out there willing to selflessly give up their time and they should be utilized.
A lot of the sites are not taking volunteers anymore, and I cant find any that is permitted to people who live in Illinois. I live in chicago and I have a group of ten people who would be willing to travel for a week or two to help the shores and wildlife. How can I find a program that would allow us to come down, and do some real work. We are all really worried about the spill and really want to do something.
BP needs to HIRE all displaced business people affected in the four states. Temporary employees, until the Gulf is pure again. Maybe with all that help, BP would learn a few things from its new employees. Maybe BP would be shaken-up a little, and keep some of these employees who are now so vital to helping the Gulf.
I would like to help in any which way possible…i think we can train more people by setting up tent cities and showing film on cleaning up animals and nesting grounds….also having computers to update the peoples families who are volunteers to stay in contact with loved ones and to give info. for more volunteers to participate in different areas that need attention….i,m familiar with micro-computer technology and can help on these set ups and train people on clean ups ….so we can have an efficient requirement program to go out on the field and participate in the different areas that are most critical…..But if nothing else i would like to help in any area that needs attention immediately….I live in El Paso, Texas….
I ive in maryland and I really would like to help. I love animals and tear up when here and see them so helpless on television. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help
Contact Avon and see if they can help in any way through their Representatives. I am an Avon Independent Sales Rep and I know that Avon can get the word out fast through us. They raised tons of money for Haiti, why not do it for the US? I know my customers would help. http://www.avon.com is a good place to start to try to contact them. Here’s a good link to contact them with: http://www.avoncompany.com/world/index.html
Hi, I’m Cera. I graduated high school in May and I will be attending Auburn University in the fall to major in marine biology. I would really love to help with the clean up of the marine life in the gulf. It would be great experience as well as a great way to help out the environment in this time of need. I would be able to travel to anywhere in the gulf during the month of July.
Any suggestions?
Please get back to me.
-Cera
I run a community service club in El Paso, Texas. We are looking to send Dawn soap we’ve collected to help with the cleaning of the animals in the gulf. Where do we send it to?
Monica,
We have sent your message to seven different wildlife organizations for response. We’ve included your contact info. Please let us know when you hear back!!!
Thank you for your efforts, concern, and support.
Best,
TSS Staff
I am interested in bringing off duty cops, firemen and lawyers from New Jersey to the Gulf Coast so that the BP retained thugs can be backed down, beat up or arrested when they interfere with wild-life rescue or photo documentation of their catastrophe.
Once private security forces are put in their place, I would like to establish a REAL command center and engage the world in fighting this disaster in the same way the world rallied after 9/11.
Mobilizing hundreds of thosands is a tremendous undertaking that no one has under takeun – WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR?
We need housing and food for mass numbers of people and then we need those people working around the clock attacking the oil from the beaches out to the disaster site.
We need transporation for rescued animals and safe sanctuary for those animals until this think is capped and the mess cleaned. Instead we have small minded idiots trying to salvage a tourist season instead of our planet.
It is time for an incident commander with Federal Authority and real experience dealing with disaster recovery. FEMA is not now nor will it ever be capable. Send the NYC fire department and give them what they ask for, then watch how it is supposed to be handled!
